The end of the Mavericks season is always bittersweet and this year was no exception.
The Mavericks Water Polo Club made club history by qualifying three teams to the 17U NCL National Finals hosted in Calgary this year: we qualified two men’s teams (Mavericks Black and Mavericks Red) and one women’s team (Mavericks Black).
The teams played well and hard during National Finals. The Mavericks women stayed undefeated until the semi finals. They ended up finishing fourth in the country.
The Mavericks Red men made Mavericks history by qualifying for National Finals at the Eastern Nationals competition in Montreal. Their hard work and determination was on display during all of their National Finals games. They ended up finishing 7th nationally.
The Mavericks Black men also made everyone proud with a phenomenal season. These athletes put all of their heart into every game and it showed. While they lost their final came to CAMO, the game had all of the action and excitement we’ve come to expect from these teams throughout the season. In the end, the boys brought home the silver medal and we are proud of each and every one of them for the effort they put in to each game.
Congratulations to all of our 17U athletes on all four of our Mavericks teams. You showed us what being a Mavericks athlete is all about!
We are also proud to acknowledge Tate Falconer for his Water Polo Canada NCL Most Valuable Defensive Player award and Marko Todorovski for his Water Polo Canada NCL Most Valuable Goalie award. Well earned!
